Breastfeeding & lactation consulting
Breastfeeding is natural — which doesn't mean it's always easy. Pain, cracked nipples, doubts about whether the baby is "getting enough", going back to work: all of it has solutions when the guidance is right from the start.
Dr Mela is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) — the highest international certification in breastfeeding support — and, as a pediatrician, can assess both baby and mother medically. Sessions take place in the practice's dedicated breastfeeding room.

Sessions cover
- Preparation and education during pregnancy and after birth
- Correct latch and positioning, and prevention of problems
- Specialist medical support with breastfeeding difficulties
- Nutrition for the breastfeeding mother
- Breastfeeding and returning to work
- Hand expression and building a personal milk stash
- Gentle weaning
When should I see a lactation consultant?
Ideally before a problem appears — a prenatal session lays the right foundations. If feeding hurts, the baby isn't gaining weight, or something worries you, don't wait; the earlier, the easier the fix.
What does IBCLC mean?
International Board Certified Lactation Consultant — an international credential requiring extensive clinical experience and examinations; the highest level of specialisation in lactation.
Should I bring the baby?
Yes — in most sessions the baby's presence is essential so a feed can be assessed in practice. The practice has a quiet, private breastfeeding room.
